Women’s Health Physio

At Southside Physio we are proud to offer an excellent service for our Women’s Health patients. Jess Andriolo, Lisa Kaye and Jannelle Van Zyl are experienced in the management of Women’s Health concerns.

Pelvic health conditions affecting women are prevalent and include conditions like bladder and bowel dysfunction, antenatal and postnatal needs, pelvic pain, pelvic floor strength for exercise/normal life function. We are here to challenge the status quo, get women the treatment they need, and ensure it is executed at the highest quality.

What can Women’s Health Physio help with?

Diagnostic Ultrasound – Our Physio’s can use a real-time ultrasound machine to determine the activity levels of your pelvic floor muscles.

Internal Examination: Some of our women’s health physio’s are trained in the palpation of internal pelvic floor musculature, this can provide key insights into your muscle tone and strength, in turn creating a more clear treatment plan.

Pelvic Floor Exercises A significant aspect of physiotherapy involves pelvic floor exercises. These exercises are crucial as they help to strengthen the muscles we use for continence.

Bladder and Bowel Training Aside from the exercises associated with the pelvic floor, habitual retraining around the bladder and bowel is essential.

Resuming Regular Activities Post birth, or with pelvic floor weakness, there may be restrictions on heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for several weeks. As recovery progresses, patients can gradually return to their regular activities under the guidance of their physiotherapist.

Exercise classes
Our Physiotherapists run the Pilates Classes and our Exercise Physiologists run +WOMEN  in Canberra, an inclusive and social exercise class for women that includes the management of pre/perimenopausal concerns.
